Looking for creative writing prompts for adults that aren't about trauma

Every list of creative writing prompts for adults seems to assume you want to write about your deepest traumas. 'Write about the worst thing that ever happened to you.' 'Describe a moment of profound loss.' Sometimes I just want to write something fun or weird or silly. I'm in a community writing group and we take turns bringing prompts, but I'm running out of ideas that aren't either too serious or too childish. I found some good ones recently about inanimate objects having conversations—like two buildings across the street from each other suddenly gaining the ability to talk . That was so fun and weird. Or writing from the perspective of a mushroom communicating underground . Anyone have prompts that are imaginative and playful without being dumb? I want to write, not cry.

Finally someone said it! I refuse to believe that "real" adult writing has to be angsty. The two buildings talking prompt is gold.

Here are some I've collected:
  • A ghost who's really annoyed that the living keep trying to "help them move on"
  • The secret society of lost socks that meets in your dryer
  • What clouds dream about
  • A love story between two stars that will never meet
  • A detective noir but the detective is a cat
Writing should be FUN sometimes. Keep making weird stuff! 🎉
