Feeling Lost: How to Handle Breakup While Studying Abroad?

I've got problem on my hands that could use some advice about. You see, when I'm not teaching English literature at Santa Clara University, I'm bit of globetrotter. Literature and travel, it's kind of my perfect duo. Recently, one of my former students reached out to me for some advice. She's studying abroad in Italy right now talk about life imitating art, am right? Anyway, she was seeing this really nice Italian guy but things went south. Fast. They broke up and now she's struggling big time with how to handle it all. Honestly, it breaks my heart to see her so down like this, especially when she should be having the time of her life exploring different country. Trying to comfort her over Skype is one thing but think having some tangible strategies would be way more helpful. So Remember that scene in "Eat Pray Love" when Julia Roberts' character finds peace after her divorce by traveling the world?

Yeah, maybe real-life doesn't work out quite that cinematically, but there must be some wisdom to glean from experience here. Breakups are tough enough in your home turf throw in navigating an unfamiliar culture and language into the mix.
