The California scholarship landscape is simultaneously the most resource-rich and most confusing financial aid environment I have ever tried to navigate and I say this as someone who considers themselves a reasonably organized person

There's the Cal Grant, which most people know. There's the Middle Class Scholarship, which fewer people know. There's the institutional grant layer on top of that, which varies completely by campus. And then there are approximately ten thousand private scholarships with California residency preferences that range from genuinely substantial to suspiciously small.
What I'm struggling to find is any resource that maps these in a way that helps me understand which ones I'm actually eligible for and which ones are worth the application time relative to the award amount.
The CSAC website is helpful but dense. My financial aid office is helpful but appointment slots are booked three weeks out. Scholarship search engines feel like they're optimized for ad revenue rather than actual matching.
Has anyone found a genuinely useful way to sort through this? Or a person or office on a California campus that was actually helpful?
