What are California's new laws for schools in 2026? I'm trying to keep up. 📋

Every year there seem to be new laws affecting students in California. I wanted to understand what's actually changing this year. After reading through news articles, here's what I found :

Gender-neutral bathrooms (SB 760): By July 2026, every school must have at least one gender-neutral bathroom, unlocked and accessible to all students. This is huge for trans and non-binary students like me .

Phone restrictions (AB 3216): Schools must limit or ban smartphone use by July 2026. Each district can make its own rules, but the state is pushing for phone-free campuses .

Immigration protections (AB 49 and SB 98): Immigration officers can't enter schools without a warrant. Schools can't share student information without a court order. If officers are on campus, schools must notify families .

Healthier school meals (AB 1264): California is phasing out "ultra-processed foods" from school meals. It's the first law of its kind in the nation. Full prohibition by 2035 .

Easier college admissions (SB 640): Eligible high school seniors can be automatically admitted to participating CSU campuses based on coursework and GPA .

LGBTQ+ mental health resources: Student ID cards for grades 7-12 must now include the Trevor Project crisis hotline, providing 24/7 suicide prevention and mental health support for LGBTQ+ youth .

Antisemitism prevention (AB 715): A new Office of Civil Rights and an Antisemitism Prevention Coordinator will track incidents and advise schools .

Some of these laws are already in effect, some start July 2026. It's a lot to track, but at least California is trying to make schools safer and better.

Anyone know how schools are actually implementing these? The laws are one thing, real life is another.
