What's the commute like if I live off-campus at SDSU?

I'm considering living further from SDSU to save on rent, but I'm worried about the commute. A student review said: *“I live in North Park and take the bus. It's 20-30 minutes, which is fine. The bus runs regularly”* . Another said: “I drive from La Mesa. Parking on campus is a nightmare. I leave an hour early to find a spot.”

Parking permits are expensive. A reviewer said: “If you can, take public transit. The trolley is reliable and cheaper than parking.” Another said: “There are park-and-ride lots where you can leave your car and take the shuttle.”

I'm also curious about safety. A student said: “I feel safe on campus, but I wouldn't walk alone late at night. Take advantage of the escort services.”

For current SDSU commuters, what's your setup? Do you drive or take transit? How much time do you budget for your commute? Is it worth living further out to save money, or does the stress of commuting negate the savings? I'm trying to find a balance between affordability and quality of life.
