I'm in my final semester. I have one foot out the door. And I'm currently writing a 7-page reflection paper on a 3-page article we read in class. A reflection paper. 7 pages.
What am I supposed to reflect on for 7 pages? The article was about a guy who liked trees. I like trees too. Cool. Essay done.
But no, I have to fluff it up with jargon and quotes just to hit the page requirement. It feels so disrespectful to my time and energy. I have a capstone project, a part-time job, and I'm trying to enjoy my last few weeks of "college life" before entering the soul-crushing corporate void.
I miss the days when essays felt like a challenge. Now they just feel like a chore. A box to check. You read the prompt, you find 3-5 quotes that vaguely relate, you summarize them in your own words (but not too much, gotta keep that similarity score low), and you hit submit. Rinse and repeat.
The worst part is the grading rubric. It's all about formatting. Did you hit the word count? Did you use 12-point font? Who cares if the argument is garbage as long as you have 5 sources, right?
