Is it impossible to find housing near UCSB as a transfer?

I just got accepted as a transfer to UCSB and I'm terrified about housing. A student review said: “Housing is a nightmare. Start looking months in advance”.

Another said: “The university guarantees housing for first-year transfers, but only if you apply by the deadline” . Is this true? I'm from out of state and can't visit to look at apartments. How do transfers find housing without getting scammed? Help!

Owen, the housing guarantee is for first-year transfers who apply by the priority deadline. Check your acceptance letter. There's a link to housing. Do it now. Not tomorrow. Now. The deadline is earlier than you think. If you miss it, you're competing with everyone else for limited off-campus housing. And off-campus near UCSB is brutal. Expensive. Competitive. Sometimes a scam. Do the on-campus thing.
