I took a gap year before starting college, and now I'm dealing with major homesickness while trying to navigate through my courses like Screenwriting, Cinematography, and Film Production. My dream is to become a teacher in California public schools someday, but building industry connections and creating a killer portfolio in LA's expensive scene has got me stressing!

I love hitting up local art shows and concerts in my free time, but balancing coursework and extracurriculars is tough. How do you all manage to juggle it all without losing your mind? Any tips on staying motivated and making those Hollywood connections while keeping up with the demands of college life?

Joseph, first off, taking a gap year was brave and you're gonna bring such unique perspective to your films because of it. don't underestimate that!!

for the LA expensive scene struggle - there are SO many free industry events in this city. follow "filmla" on instagram, they post weekly roundups of free screenings and panels. also most museums have free days. you can network without spending $$$, just gotta know where to look.

the homesickness will ease up. give yourself grace while you adjust. 💕
