Hey Golden State fam! I just graduated from CSULB and landed a full-time position, and I HAD to share how I cracked the code on how to find a job as a california student . Spoiler: your university career center is a GOLDMINE, and most students sleep on it!

First – Handshake is your best friend. At CSULB, we use CareerLINK (similar platform), and I set up job alerts so opportunities came straight to my inbox . I found my internship there! Also, check out Careershift – it's for domestic AND international job/internship searches, and it's free through your university .

Second – Big Interview changed my life. I practiced mock interviews online, tailored to my industry, and by the time the real thing came around, I was so much more confident . No more freezing up when they ask behavioral questions!

Third – BEACH NEXUS (or whatever your school's networking platform is) – it's an exclusive network of alumni who WANT to help students . I connected with a grad who worked at my dream company, and she gave me insider tips that helped me land the job. Networking works, y'all!

Fourth – don't forget CalJOBS! It's California's official employment portal with a complete set of tools for job seekers . I also browsed Glassdoor and LinkedIn constantly .

And if you're eligible for Federal Work-Study, USE IT. UC San Diego has great info about both on-campus and off-campus work-study opportunities, including partnerships with research institutes and tutoring programs . Even if you don't have work-study, general student employment is still an option .

Oh, and check out California CareerZone – it's an intuitive career exploration website that helps you connect occupations, colleges, and degrees . I used it early on to figure out what I actually wanted to do!

California has SO many resources. You just have to know where to look! Feel free to ask me anything – happy to help my fellow California students succeed!

Okay wait, BACK UP. Careershift is FREE through our universities?! 😱 I've been paying for LinkedIn Premium like a chump thinking that was the only way to find good opportunities.

Patricia, thank you for this comprehensive breakdown! I'm a first-gen student and honestly had no idea how to navigate the job search process. My parents mean well but they're like "just go give them your resume in person" which... doesn't work anymore. 😅

The alumni networking tip is huge. I've been too scared to reach out to alums because I feel like I'm bothering them, but hearing that they actually WANT to help is motivating. Gonna try it this week!
